Not that I don't hear you- I do, I do. But part of being in an active civic dialog is keeping current, getting information without the latter-added spin, straight from the horse's mouth.

For example, since I watched all three, even the vice-presidential debate, I could tell you that in the last debate G Dub referred to the U.S. military as an "army of compassion" which he plans to use "offensively", and that it smacked of so much distopian doublespeak that I thought I really was living in 1984 for a second...

I could sardonically mention that Bush even had the nerve to call the anti-U.S. policy terrorists "Haters" (yes, "haters"), and both candidates glossed over the AIDS pandemic, but only because I saw it with my own two eyes.

Now, maybe the observations I'm making are small ones, I'll grant that...but I hope you see my larger point is valid; it behooves one to know her enemy, and gather fresh ammunition. And I can't hold my own in any discussion if I willfully remain uninformed.

I also refuse to watch these "debates". There simply is no point to watch. A large percentage of this country is hell-bent on voting these facists back into office even after being shown he is nothing more than a liar and a stooge. The reason he has this chance to win is that most of people voting for him are dumber than Bush. Most of his votes are coming from people that listen to Falwell and Robertson. Evangelical zealots put terrorist to shame with their blind fanatical devotion to "men of god". He is playing the god angle even more now that he knows he is in trouble. I hope we all learn not to allow a draft dodging, born-again christian mba become president again.

I think the situation is a bit more complicated. Suppose you live in an ethnically/racially plural society where winning the election is contingent on getting support from the ethnic group that constitutes the majority of the society (I am aware that exceptions arise where some minorities are needed to carry particular states under our archaic Electoral College stystems). And suppose the ethnic group that is the majority is at best indifferent and at worst hostile towards a particular minority group. Then it's actually in the interest of competing political parties to ignore that group or minimize the impression that they are accomodating that group to appeal to the ethnic group that constitutes the majority. Party competition will not be sufficient to give the minority an adequate hearing and a place of importance on either party's platform.

Man you're missing out...

It's like the politicians version of an emce battle and both Kerry and Bush had some "Ether" for each other man. Both of them staright up called each other liars... the town hall folks were asking some good questions last night that would make you say "OOOOHHH, how's he gonna answer that one.."

At this point, if your mind is made up, watch for pure entertainment. Your right about people of color though, they haven't been mentioned one bit... maybe in the next debate...

Well, at the vice presidebtial debate, Cheney showed his careless for people of color... it was moderated by a Black woman, (forgot her name) and she mentioned the statistic of AIDS among Black women from agre 25 to 40 saying it was the number 1 killer Cheney said, "Hmmm, I haven't heard that before. I haven't bout those numbers..."

I'm like, where the hell have you been dude? Maybe up in his crib coubting his spoils from the Halliburton contract in iraq...

ANyway, the next and last debate is on Wednesday... check it out... it's fun!
