I think a lot of Em's beats are hot. Granted I am biased because I too am a white boy from Detroit. But he's made some really great ones. A few that come to mind are "Lady" on the Obie Trice album and "Patiently Waiting" on 50's Get Rich or Die Trying. Some of the beats he did on the "new" Tupac record are pretty great, too.

That said, while I enjoy his beats and LOVE his rhymes, he's a little punk. I was at the show in San Francisco when he jumped off the stage to fight with a dude in the audience, and I tell ya, he talked a lot of shit and didn't actually get into it until he had security and Proof to back him up. That was weak. If you're going to be an asshole (i.e. get in a fight at a show), at least have the good grace to not be a wuss about it.

I thought the lyrics on his album were good, but you're right the beats were lacking. I do think he was angry though, and Em is my favorite supplier of angry music. Mosh is just angry and bitter all over. Puke. Even crazy in Love is got some anger behind it. Besides, it wouldn't be an Em album if he didnt rap about how much he hates and would like to kill Kim. He didn't disappoint in that area.

Somehow, I managed to pick this up at 6pm yesterday at Best Buy... Anyway, after listening some more, I sorta came to the conclusion that it really isn't too bad, it's just kinda boring. "Encore" isn't just a name apparently. There really isn't much original here, and it seems like a pretty half assed effort. I'm not exactly an expert, but I know enough to know that half of these tracks would have fit in ok on the last album. Nothing super exciting, but I've spent $14.99 on worse.
