R.I.P.
For some reason, I remain surprised when 300 lb. men die in triple-digit heat. Either way, it remains a damn shame. ‘Til the other side, man.
I think I’m going back to Durham tomorrow. Yes, I’m still in Atlanta. Got so planted that I hooked up a wireless router at JR’s apartment. When you begin to hook up office equipment at someone else’s house, you’ve officially relocated, even if for a really short time.

Jon and the nephew
Jon’s birthday is today. Check the archives for this day–or the day before, I can’t remember–last year if you didn’t see what I did last year. ‘Til the other side, my man.
Interestingly, this coincides with me walking around that substandard school yesterday.

What is a Blogger?
What’s a blogger? What’s a writer?
I’m not sure there’s a difference. After all, I run this blog, but most of you say that I’m a writer. People do pay me to write, so I guess I am a writer, in a way. However, I blog daily and write professionally something more like weekly, so one could easily say I’m more blogger than writer.
Perhaps this seems an existential exercise, but there appears to be a serious chasm between people that call themselves “writers” and people that call themselves “bloggers,” and it’s really silly.

Macintosh Mayhem!
Check this story out about the mayhem that ensued in Richmond, VA for a super-duper discounted computer sale. There’s some humor, but I put this as another strike against those that think black folks just hate education so much. You really think most of those people were in line for themselves?

All-time Producers
Give a peek to the bidness blog today. Mannie Fresh has left Cash Money Records, and that’s a big deal to a country boy like me. Unlike No Limit, CMR was able to build a label with a long-term plan, and the foundation was the same as No Limit’s–dope beats. Somehow, Mannie was able to spin those beats off in the national mainstream for eight years–and he’s been at it for much longer–and stay relevant. He made Juve, Lil’ Wayne, and others into stars they would have never been on their own. Here’s hoping Mannie can get into something dope.
But that got me thinking…

I agree with Bob Dole?
Well, I was almost willing to say that I did, until I realized that he spent a lot of time in this piece hacking a hair into dust.
They know they were wrong for puttin’ that lady’s name into the paper, regardless of the potential legality of the act. I don’t care if she was just a janitor at the CIA.

Will I ever leave Atlanta?
Today is my thirteenth day in Atlanta. The original plan was for me to be here for about eight or so, but I’m still here, and I really don’t see myself leaving anytime soon. A good friend of mine is moving from Durham in a couple of days, so I’ll need to go up there for her farewell soiree.
After that, I might come right back.

PETA Gets it All Wrong
Watch this shit, please. Just watch it. Mama, I know you don’t like me cussin’ on here, but you’ll refer to it the same way I do, I’m sure.
Okay, can we talk about this?

NABJ Part IV - The Coolest Cats in the House
Check the name at the bottom. Luther D., baby. Baba’s out having lunch with Bill Simmons’ intern. I’m sure he’ll have a story to tell. The real question is if Baba’s ever going to leave Atlanta. I’ve been back in Cali comin’ up on a week, and he’s still in his parents’ basement typing and chillin’.
It’s a fuckin’ basement, man. It ain’t even finished. Paid thousands of dollars for Bomaniland, and he’s in a fuckin’ basement. Insulation on the walls and all that.
The A must be like that.
Either way, here were the three coolest people at NABJ 2005.
