NABJ III - Journalists vs. Jesus
Well, I think tomorrow will be the last NABJ update. I’m realizing that a grip of the stories don’t transfer to the written word nearly as well as they do the spoken. Gimme a call if you wanna hear nore. Don’t got the number? SOL, baby.

NABJ II - Lesson to the Young (Awkwardly Golden)
Business…Friday, I had a piece go up on ESPN’s Page 3 on the dreadful soundtrack to NCAA 2006. Madden comes out today, but I’m too far removed from my PlayStation to be at the store for a while. Plus, I wouldn’t wanna be put into a position where I had to push a child down to get mine. Fred once did that to a kid in Wal-Mart over a PS2 the day they came out. That lil’ sucker should have been resting up for school, though. That’s what he gets.
Anyway, back to NABJ…

NABJ, Part I–Did You See/Hear That?
Let’s get this started with some of the most double-taken things to happen at the conference.

NABJ Recap - The Introduction
That’s me and frequent commenter Fred Batiste, A Weapon of Mass Destruction on Sunday morning. When that’s the most open your eyes will get at 9am on the last day of a conference, you done did the damn thang, shawty.

Andruw Jones, right fast.
Business…check this one at salon.com on Andruw Jones. For those unfamiliar with Salon, you’ll have to watch to view an ad–not a pop-up–in order to read the piece. It doesn’t take long, so just go ahead and do it.
And congrats to King. His wife gave birth on Sunday, bringing one more Kaufman into the world. While I’m thinking about it, I’ve gotta ask King if that’s a stage name. King Kaufman? Can’t be real…but I know it is.
Back a little later with the beginning of the NABJ wrap-up.

Atlanta–The Happiest Place on Earth
Oh buddy, this is a serious weekend in Atlanta. Along with the NABJ meeting, TD Jakes has brought his folks along to praise God and anger hotel workers (more on that later), Jesse Jackson is bringing people in to campaign for an extension of the Voting Rights Act (more on that later), and Billboard Magazine is having their hip hop convention in Buckhead. Best part about that last thing–Ron Artest is in town for it. Second best thing–Tayari’s at the hotel in Buckhead where that convention’s being held. Oil, meet water. Water, holla at that greasy joker over there.
Anyhoo, NABJ’s been off the meat rack.

Am I Trippin?
Yeah, this makes sense. Yanno, cuz white folks never blow anything up.
And this makes sense, too. Yanno, because a really big company with mediocre products is better than two small ones. Dollar bill, baby.
‘Bout to pack up for my trip. I’ve come to loathe road trips.

Lying 101
Rafael Palmeiro got suspended for using steroids yesterday. This is a big deal, non-baseball fans. For all this talk about steroids, the only folks that had been caught before Palmeiro were piddly singles hitters. This time, a cat with historically impressive numbers will be gettin’ an ass full of oak for the next ten days.
There’s really only one lesson to be learned from this one–never oversell the lie.

Gettin ready for NABJ
Didn’t post on Friday. I hadn’t done that on a weekday in a while.
See, I used to post every Friday and maybe some other times because that coincided with my column. Since the column doesn’t run anymore, I’ve been torn on when to update. I just do it every weekday now because I need the practice and don’t want y’all forgetting about me. Remember, as much as this is for fun, it’s about SSP–SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTION. Can’t do that if I’m not posting, can I?
Either way, Friday proved to be an interesting day. I’ll tell something more about it later, but I’m up now getting some things ready for NABJ this week.
Yay-yuh!
