The researcher was saying that people who are prone to drinking are more into hip-hop. She never said rap causes drinking. It was the journalist who got sloppy and said that hip-hop "drives you to drink" and is responsible for "leading youths to consume alcohol". The researcher did say that we should be wary of hip-hop being used to market liquor, but I don't think that statement is neccessarily anti-rap. Its sort of like saying we shouldn't let Jack Daniels put up ads in a psychiatrist's office. Theres nothing inherently wrong with hip-hop or with shrinks, but both hip-hop heads and head cases are easy prey for alcohol companies. Maybe she's into guys like Common and Kweli, who seem to rap under the mantra of "do no harm". That said, I would smear shit all over the white house if they ever passed a law banning music from liquor ads. Actual quote. So basically this research says that there are people who listen to rap, reggae or techno after they get high or drunk. WOW! That's big news! I happen to know for a fact that people listen to Blue Grass, Rock, R&B, Classical, Jazz, Pop, showtunes, salsa, and Disney after catching a buzz, too.
