One more thing about this album, I swear - regarding your comment that that might not be Ron Isley on "One Day". At first I thought that had to be him, but then I recall a couple of songs from Houston/P.A. rappers that also have a Ron Isley-sounding dude on the hook. If you haven't heard them yet, check out "Peepin' Me" by Fat Pat and Lil' Keke and "So Real" by DJ DMD, DJ Screw and Al-D. I don't remember the hook singer getting credited for those songs either.

Sorry babes but you can't dress up misogyny enough for me to like it. Same way I couldn't get down to a dead-on joint about baby-rape. But maybe that's just me.

I forgot to mention--that I no business liking it the way I do. I mean those brothers are some serious "F a chick" shit. Yet, and still, I agree with you about where it fits in the South's hip hop portfolio.

Yeah...this album came out in the day when I was trying to stand in the middle of Bone Thugs Territory and represent NYC to the fullest. I tried to front on this one. But it was by far my favorite south record.

But, why you gotta talk about Goodie like that? I love that first album to this day!

I've only heard this album in its entirity a few times, and all of them were about 10 years ago. My brothers played it a lot, but I was away in college, and was listening to ATLiens, Stakes is High, Illadelph Halflife, Reasonable Doubt, The Score, in addition to classics from previous years.

I do remember that the beats were fantastic and Bun B rhymed his ass off, but that I didn't care for the lyrics at all and thought Bun was wasting his talent. I might have to revisit this one.

Any one that can let the following sequence of words come from thier mouth or fingers is obviously not from the south: pimp is subpar. What alot of our friends above the M-D line don't get or have just recently come realize is that southern rap (or hip-hop if you have to use that phrase) is not derive from NYC hip-hop directly, but is more a modernized version of the blues. In other words, it ain't about how complex or lyrical what you're saying is, it's about making some one else feel exactly how you felt at the moment you wrote or freestyled your verse. And no one is better at that than pimp. Deciphering Wu-tang lyrics for deeper understanding is cool, but if you ever had baby mama drama then: "I got a baby, but his momma act like he ain't mine" hits you a little harder than mathematics. And if the verse "I'm bout that drama/ no question marks or commas/ you can ask that boy Too Short or you can even ask my momma" can convert a suburbanite from South Carolina who wasn't feeling rap, PERIOD, to a die hard UGK fan, then you can't tell me shit about Chad "Pimp C" Butler being subpar. But that just my opinion.

this record has been stolen from me twice
and i need it again

pimp is subpar.

and it's no more problematic in terms of mysogyny than the chronic or doggystyle or anything else from that era...

anyone else notice that pimp is jumping on everyone's tracks now that he's free just like bun did in 03-05?

And for what it's worth, I keep hearing that Bun's verse on "Murder" was a freestyle. That's just insane. I agree that just reading the words do it no justice.

Bo, you'd be remiss if you didn't mention how much Jay-Z loves this album and how he practically owes Bun royalties for "Touched".

As much as I'm anticipating the new UGK album, I'm afraid that with the popularity of southern hip hop at its apex now, it's going to be one big, star-studded affair. Everyone and they momma is gonna want a piece, and that might bring down its quality. As far as I'm concerned (they don't pay me to make any decisions, but whatever), the only guests I would want to hear on this album are Scarface, Devin the Dude, Z-Ro, and Mr. 3-2 (I have yet to hear a collaboration between UGK and 3-2 that I haven't loved).

My favorite song on this album switches all the time, but right now, I've been alternating between the title track and "Diamonds And Wood" lately.
