Help me out…
Went to the movies last night with my fiancee. I won’t tell you what movie I saw because I don’t want to spoil this before you get to see it. This is my only question–would there be anything funny about a scene in a movie where a man exacts revenge on his cheating wife by repeatedly beating her with a belt? I just wanna know.

I bet Will Ferrell could make it at least sort of funny.

That ish is all the way funny. Fuhget Will Ferrell, attach a giant in drag’s name to the movie and you’ve got comedy copper!

Don’t know about that. But I also saw this movie also and that part was funny as hell, but my friend didn’t find it too funny!!! (I did)

@ souldecirce:
What? Another fucking Tyler Perry movie?

I don’t know…I’m just guessing that he would put something like that in a movie, and the audience is supposed to be all: “Yeah, whoop her ass!, She know she wasn’t right!”
But I don’t know. Interesting that Bomani thinks it’s a movie we will go see. Can’t be This Christmas…

All I know is I kept waiting for the follow up scene, ya know?…kept thinking round two was inevitable (but knew it would mess up said movie’s vibe).

I don’t think it would be funny … but I could understand why he would want/need to do it.

I saw that scene and immediately thought of Roots…
I was a bit shocked and wondered why nobody said “you know, this might not be appropriate” when making the film.

You raised an excellent theorectical and ethical question, Brother. I’ll attempt an answer. Men beat and murder their wives at alarming rates. Most women do not know a woman who has beaten or murdered a man. But most women do know a woman who has been beaten or murdered by a man.
For me, the scene was more shocking than funny. But I understood their vicarious laughter.

It could be funny – if said cheating wife was such a freak that she was actually enjoying the repeated belt-beating and only got more and more turned on as he did it, ending with the man giving up or passing out with exhaustion.
