BOMANI’S GOT A JOB

Well, I’m kinda late on sharing this, but there’s a reason for it.  As of right now, I’m the host of a midday sports talk show on 620 The Bull, the ESPN Radio affiliate in Raleigh.  It’s The Three Hour Lunch Break with Bomani Jones, and you can catch it from 10-1 ET every weekday.  Just click on the live stream link on the right sidebar, and listen away.

It’s pretty simple — the show sounds like someone’s giving me a mic to talk about sports for three hours, only requiring that I don’t say any of the big-ticket cuss words.  It’s a hoot.  Tune in and enjoy.

I’ll adjust the sidebar to let you know the time and all that fun stuff soon.  Thanks for everything, everyone.

   I would like to apologize to Bomani and the others who post here for my intemperate and childish attempts to mock the idiom used frequently by those posting and responding here. I will not use the “if I offended anyone” dodge - I know I offended several of you and I will take care to be more specific, literate, and logical in expressing my dissent in the future. I look forward to the post and riposte in the future.

   The first time I heard you on the station, 850the buzz, I thought to myself; Who the Hell is this GUY? But only it wasn’t in a bad way. You are the first person close to my age, on the radio, that actually had the same feelings I had about sports and life. I had no clue who you were or where you were from, but I knew I liked your style. You’ve got to be one of the most down to earth people I’ve heard on the radio. Not even Jim Rome has made me laugh at sports the way you have. (Did I neglect to mention Jim F. Rome is my favorite by far.) Filling in on 850 was not enough. I am glad your talent and genius has worked out for you here in NC. I believe the listeners will really benefit from this. If anybody could pull an interview with Romey I think it could be you. Thinking about that, Have you ever met or worked with Jim Rome?

   Anyway, not to get on a tangent, but I am greatly pleased with the choice in the early afternoon on 850. What happened to double C?

   Yeah, by the way, don’t stop the Saturday show. You and Shannen?(spelling?) are fucking hilarious.

5. Responding late to to your Tupac post.

   I think Pac was and still is ahead of his time. He says in one line, what it takes Kanye to say in a whole song. I bet if you asked Kanye who he respects the most, that nigga would say Tupac.

   There’s a difference though. A Tupac can’t exist in every generation, and to be honest, he had an unique upbringing and led him to not only be commercially successful, but in a weird way, politically motivated. He would write a song about killing Biggie, and then follow up on the same disc with Dear Mama.

   In a way, his artistry was pure chaos. And I think if he really was influential as an ARTIST, not a person, most people would listen to all his music. But is message as a person was bigger than his message as a rapper.

11. All I’m saying is, I wouldn’t celebrate that shit in front of black people. You know it’s true. It’s the same way you can’t denounce a Journey song in a bar with white people around, or shoot down the movie Top Gun. Come on, loosen up. I have black friends and they would 100% agree with me. So you shut up.
