Classic Boondocks

Stuff like this is why The Boondocks remains essential reading. Check yesterday’s and today’s.
I’m also starting a comic novel he did with Reggie Hudlin called Birth of a Nation. Should be a blast. But while I was at the bookstore, peep this here joint that I found. I cant find the link, but I’m pretty sure it was called “Moving Out, Moving On.” Basically, it was a workbook for women who need to get financially prepared to drop their men.

That’s right…it’s a book designed to help folks get the money stashed and ready to go so you ain’t do the Tina Turner and leave with nothing but a name.
Sounds like a great idea. Just don’t get caught with it.
Really, what do you think would happen if a husband found that that in the underwear drawer right next to the light saber? Bad things, pimpin. Bad things.
Worst case scenario? Taking suggestions on that one.
I gotta go to work. Probably more later.

I’d feel better if the cartoon was going to be on Comedy Central. The last thing I’d want to see is a watered down version that ruins the strips for me.

I’m more interested in the voices. Can you just imagine what voice will come out of Huey’s mouth on the series premiere?

Actually, the Boondocks animated show will be a part of the Adult Swim night time block which is for adults and is pretty cutting edge… I mean, it’s the block that got Family Guy back on Fox Sunday night. So the cartoon will not be watered down at all… starts on October 2, 15 episodes.
As far as the voices, I heard that Cree Summer (Different World) will voice Jasmine. Also, Regina King will voice Riley and Jill Talley will voice some character. Someone named Indigo will voice Huey and I believe John Witherspoon will voice Grandad
Before anyone gets worried about Regina King doing Riley, remember Bart Simpson’s voice is done by a woman.

I don’t give a shit who does the other voices. I’ll tune in just to hear Witherspoon.

You know Reggie Hudlin just became the President of Programming at BET, after he and McGruder basically DISS BET reapeatedly in Birth.
I have a copy of that on my desk … maybe I should flip through it.
I’m about a quarter of the way through, and it’s fun. The disses are vicious, though. It should be noted that there’s not a person on this earth with a modicum of sense that hasn’t dissed BET. To hire someone that hasn’t dissed that network is to hire a fool.

I love the Boondocks. I don’t always agree with Aaron McGruder but there is no denying that the strip is great and it doesn’t get half the credit it deserves. The ones Bo linked to were funny but this one really got a laugh out of me.
Boondocks will be a nice addition to Adult Swim and should inject some color into the cartoon world. Even though Justice League gave us Green Lantern, Vixen and Steel every now and then, we haven’t had a predominately black cartoon since Static Shock.
Cree Summer is no stranger to cartoon voiceovers, she could do every voice on that show by herself and it would be great. She is that good.
