Good article. I have a deep deep almost unhealthy hatred for Duke ever since they were given the championship against UNLV. But this year J.J. has made me a believer at least on the college level. I still think he will be alot like Dale Ellis rather than Rip Hamilton in the NBA. But for this year he has earned my respect.

I agree the hate of Duke is why we hate Redick, The one thing I don’t like though is ANYBODY saying he’s clutch because he’s not. He has to have the momentum but when his team does he’s nasty.

I’ve been wondering for a while now why everyone hates redick so much…I completely agree with you about paulus–who will be very good in the future–and especially about shelden williams. I would vote redick POY over morrison as he is putting up comparable numbers against better competition.

Well, you were right when it comes to Duke, you either love’em or hate’em. And you were right about Riddick, you do have to guard him once he crosses half-court. But boy were you dead wrong when it comes to Williams. The guy leads the ACC in rebounds, blocks, and is top 10 in scoring. And have you seen the guy block? My God, getting triple-doubles as a big man is very, very rare. Not to mention he’s doing it in the ACC…this isn’t the Sunbelt conference.
I’m a huge Duke fan, since their title run in the early 90’s, and I’m a huge Riddick fan, that kid is the best shooter I have seen in 15+ years of watching basketball, but I couldn’t believe what you said about Williams. I’m surprised that someone who can get articles posted on ESPN.com could say something that was, well, rather stupid.

This is a joke . JJ is the most talented player in the country , and the only reason people hate duke and redick is cause they can’t beat em. You say overrated, how about you talk more along the lines of Rashad Mccants or the whole UNC program. there a joke and are lucky to even get to play at cameron indoor. JJ is Redickulous!!!!!!!!

Not playa hate, overrate! He only gets open because of bad D or driving his left hand or shoulder into an opponent. Check out his 4th quarter highlights vs UNC- the refs choked on their whistles like he was a Pittsburgh Steeler. That’s not gonna fly in the NBA- he’s like a shorter Wally Sczerbiak. A less athletic Chris Jackson. Morrison deserves POY- i’d give it to Roye, Pittsnogle, Gay, even Craig Smith over JJ.

You looked like an oracle yesterday, Bo. JJ was incredible in the last 5-10 minutes of the games. He was draining 3’s from all kinds of contorted positions. I don’t know if he’ll be able to create his own shot in the NBA (and he definitely needs to bulk up), but at the very least he’s gonna be an Earl Boykins-type spark off the bench.

Elton Brand exceeded expectations when he got in the league.
JJ will do good in the league, because no one plays defense anymore, except the Spurs and Pistons.
However, Adam Morrison should be Player of the Year. The guy’s a fuckin’ D-I-A-B-E-T-I-C, and he’s out there killing teams until he has to go to the bench to check his blood (because his life depends on it)…
Just think how good Morrison would be if he didn’t have to worry about diabetes. And yes, he’s a ready-made spokesperson once he gets in the NBA.
Morrison balled on EVERYBODY he’s faced, whether it’s St. Mary’s or UConn. And he’s clutch…
It’s just that to watch his games you got to say up til 11 p.m. central to watch them.
and one more thing Bo, I thought Duke playing the KKK was more of a intrasquad practice rather than two teams playing…but you must hate Duke just as much as I can’t stand LSU…and you know how I feel about Loser State University…
If I’m not mistaken, Avery came out because he needed the money.

Cherokee Parks, Shane Battier, Bob Hurley, Laetner,Danny Ferry, Jason Williams, and Johnny Dawkins are all of the lotto losers from Duke. It seems like the only ones to escape the curse are the hardship cases (Dunleavy,Brand,Deng,Magette).
It is humanly impossible to live up to the hype that emanates from Dickie V. and the Duke hype machine.
J.J. looks like the real thing, but is he a safe pick with the number one overall pick in the draft?

Big Grip, what about Grant Hill? Bust too… In a sense.
I was at the ’92 Maui Classic when Hurley and Hill played for Dook. TV didn’t do either of them justuce. Too bad they both crapped out in the league. And, NONE of you know what HELL is, until you sit next to Coach K.’s daughters during a game. I came SO close to hitting a girl, or two… At least being two people away from Magic Johnson was a highlight of the crowd experience.

That was a great tourney to watch that year (’92). I went to see OU play, (it was Billy Tubbs’ last year at OU), but was treated to the Hill, Hurly, Parks and Penny show! Yup, Penny! Hardaway was there with Memphis State.
Another thing that annoyed me was after the first day, my girlfriend and I were planning our schedule, (which games to see, which ones to pass on, etc.), she said, “Whatever, as long as we see all of the Dook games. Those guys were awesome!”
I was seeing “Sooner” RED at that comment. But she had a point. Those guys played like pros!
