Open Letter to Mike Jones

Dear Mike,
I seem to recall you talking about the goodness of the Big 12 North. In fact, let’s go quote you.
“although like i said colorado is looking nice”
Were they really?

Well, they looked like they got beat 45-17. Looked like they let Vince throw for more than 300 yards and two touchdowns. He ran for three more.
What was that about the Big 12 North? That was the best the Big 12 North had to offer? And weren’t some of your friends stuck playing for one of those loser schools in the North? Poor, poor guy you are. And didn’t the Horns give some to your Missouri Tigers a couple of weekends ago?
Help me out. I’m just checking. But didn’t you say I needed to worry about that game? When did you abandon that? Was it before it was 35-3 in the first half?
But I know what you’re thinking, assuming you know those stats you said I needed to check. Chances are you’re going to say that Texas did the same thing to Colorado in 2001, only to lose to them in the Big 12 championship. Check your history, though. In that game in Austin that year, Colorado was playing with its second string quarterback. In the championship game, the starter returned. Unfortunately for the Horns, Chris Simms was still starting. Also, Cedric Benson was hurt during that championship game, which really messed things up.
Oh, and the Buffs still only won by two points.
So it seems we’re on track to be, as you say, the runner-ups in the Rose Bowl. But did you see the tough time SC had against Notre Dame? Notre Dame is inferior to Texas at every position but offensive coordinator (that Weis is onto something), and they gave USC a serious run and would have won had Leinart gotten lucky enough to fumble. That is the first time that fumble and lucky have been used in the same sentence, but it’s real.
But more than that, did you see how Notre Dame played USC? They ran a ball control offense to keep the ball away from Southern Cal’s offense. Didn’t I tell you that was the way to beat Southern Cal? Did you see how effective it was? The Trojans showed some serious heart and moxie and they deserved to win, but the formula is out there.
What’ll it be like against a team that can rotate in four running backs and a quarterback that could gain about ten pounds and be an undersized defensive end. Gain twenty and he’d just be a defensive end.
However, there’s that whole Reggie Bush issue. I told people yesterday that Mr. Bush would be better than Barry Sanders, and I’m still saying that. He’s as fast, if not faster than Sanders. He’s stronger. He hits holes faster. He’s got moves that are comparable, though it’s difficult for me to say that anyone’s got better moves than Barry Sanders. Plus, he’s taller and a better receiver. In fact, he’s good enough that he would be a wide receiver in the league.
That’s gonna be nothin’ nice to contend with. Good thing he doesn’t play in the Big 12 North!
But at least we’ve got Mr. Michael Huff to contend with him. He did a number on Ted Ginn, but it seems that everyone else has done the same this year. Even still, we’ve got a decent matchup.
SC is clearly not unbeatable, and Texas is way way way way way way way way better than Notre Dame. Unlike ND, the Horns have beaten a team in the Top 25. We’ve also won a home game, unlike the Irish.
But let me wrap this up, Mike. Which of those Big 12 North powerhouses are you hitching your wagon to?
Hook deez,
Bomani

I totally saw this post comming, but we [QU] just got dogged 52-21, so give me a moment to collect myself….
ok. so you beat colorado who was my pic for the upset, and beat them badly i might add. But this was just a regular season game-and i picked the upset to happen in the championship game so im still tecnically right[or atleats not wrong]. Colorado will beat Nebraska and win the North then the Buffs will have a good chance at knocking of ya horns [and i never said it WOULD happen-i just said they had a good shot].
but dont act like ya horn never had a battle with a tough team…THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY gave yall a fit, in a game that was arguably better than the USC Irish game. And while ND doesnt play O-STATE, they beat michigan who will beat o-state, thus making a case tha ND would have beaten o-state. Thus making them a better team. AND had Nd one ther were rumblings of them making a natty title run-unlike o-state.
“Notre Dame is inferior to Texas at every position but offensive coordinator “—-maybe, but they are not VASTLY inferior at any of them. AND anyway im not talkin about ND, im talking about SC who the only thing TEHAS has over Sc is a cornerback. and Sc’s coaching is better anyway.
Darryll K Memorial hasnt been able to be home of a national champ since when like 1970? and Mac Brown has won how many? yea i thought so. you all have had better luck on “clark field”.
Now how many has SC won? yep [in my white tee].
Its all about experience Bo, veteran leadership, believing the system. Yea ya team is cool but V Young makes all of that happen-SC is a team, a system, a program. Speaking from experience-it is hard a lot easier to beat one player than it is a system. But what SC will prolly do is-nevamind ill save that for when it comes.
but im flattered you called me out like that-and you enjoy ya team’s run, because when Young leaves yall will be right back to going to HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAMES and waiting on teh next Adrian Pederson who will be a home state product but sign with like K-state or somebody. But its all good when b-ball season hits we shall be allies again
I’ll send you an e-mail. Replying here seems to compel you to leave more and more unintelligible comments, and your fellow readers don’t like that. Plus, back and forth on here just ain’t a good look on my part.

No one in the Big 12 North is really worth a damn. What stands between Texas and USC is Texas. They play in a legitimate conference with several decent teams, and lest we forget, these are 19-22 yr old kids, and aint no tellin with them.
Im pullin for them, even though watching Texas Fans root against Notre Dame was rather punkish. How you gonna root against USC so you don’t have to deal with them in January.
The fact is USC ISNT as invincible as they have been. One of the reasons Teams can’t string 3 and 4 national championships together is that they can’t replace those kinda players year after year. Ask Oklahoma what that is like.
Actually, you root against all the undefeated teams when there’s a possibility the BCS could leave you in the cold. ESPN.com’s Brad Edwards expects the Horns to be second in the first BCS, though. Seems Ohio State’s win, USC’s squeaker, and that Florida State’s loss would hurt Va Tech’s strength of schedule if they met in the ACC championship…all that has Texas sittin’ pretty.

Should’ve waited a day or two to post this. Now, when Mike’s Cardinals crap the bed against the Astros again, you’re just gonna have to do this all over.

The Big 12 is a 1 team conference this season. well 1 and a half if we count the texas tech offense, but to bad they dont play D. Colorado stinks, Nebraska stinks, OK stinks. Its really simple. Unless Texas beats themselves, or needs Mack Brown to coach in a tight game, they will be undefeated. They will most likely play USC. Sadly, like last season, there is a very very good chance the best team in the country again gets left out of the picture, this season being Va. Tech.

    Dude,
What is with you acting all snotty about them damn horns? You act as if they haven’t just made the climb from shitty’vil to the national scene. Now granted, Vince and the Horns are tight this year, but that gives you no excuse to parade online like these guys are Gods gift to football Mr. Bo-manny(stole from Dr.Borcherding 🙂
Your boys are good, but when and if they get to Pasadena…USC is going to kick their ass like they stole something. I am not jumping on the bandwagon AT ALL. Bush and Leinart are the truth and UT aint got shit that will stop’em. Reggie Bush showed his ass this weekend and UT can’t catch his ass, let alone stop him.
The horns are going down and I can’t wait to call you as soon as they lose!!Just like I was waiting for SC to get it, but they survived. Them fuckers are the truth.
    D-Nunn
I’ve always maintained that SC’s the best team in the country, though I don’t find them to be unbeatable. I only get snotty to get back some of that smack talk. I owed you five years worth.

I know this has absolutely nothing to do with the discussion on the table.
Disclaimer having been dispensed, can I just say…
DID YOU SEE THE MICHIGAN GAME ON SATURDAY?!?!
I love college football. I love the Big House. I even love Henne and Coach Carr, though I love Breaston and Hart more.
You may now return to your regularly scheduled program. Go Blue.
Good to see Breaston actually showed up this game/
