I agree with the article. I understand why Artest would get mad and his motivation, but like you said…he went after the wrong guy which makes a lot of that go out the window. There is little dominion over that many people. Hopefully the NBA and these places will find a way to control that. But I would think for any large arena you own (like the Staples Center, Madison Square Garden, etc) you would have a plan in case there is a riot or something. There always needs to be a large scale security plan for places like that. Do I blame the fan? To some extent yes. But bottom line…it was a a cup. Was Artest already mad? yes…Would I have been mad and want to beat someone’s ass? Yes. But, I don’t think people should be surprised by the punishment. Artest represents a company when he’s wearing that jersey (at least that’s the NBA’s rationale). If it had been outside the game and a personal matter on the street that’s one thing. But to do it on the court?…real bad. And call me a jerk if you want to, but I don’t find anger as a total excuse. Craziness maybe, but anger doesn’t just do it for me.

What do you think about the extent/method of punishment? What do you think about the race card being played to get attention in this instance? Is the use of race valid?
I don’t think Artest was wrong. I think he made a mistake. And in my mind, there’s a difference. If I cup flies at my head and I THINK you’re the one that did it, it is gonna pop off. I may have made a mistake, but what I THOUGHT I saw still will affect my actions.
My view, once Artest rushed the guy, he didn’t even hit him. What I’ve seen is that he let up off him as soon as the guy said it wasn’t him. Too late that by that time, dude that threw the cup was punching him while holding him around his neck. From my view, Jackson came to try to get Artest out of the stands once he saw the multitudes swarming on Artest. Guys were still coming at him while he was pulling Artest back. So he popped one.
Oneal? Don’t know what his story was. But I do know the fans should have never been on the court.
Yes, players are basically owned by the huge machine that is the NBA, but they are still human and some still as hood as the day they were born. You can take a person out of the pool, but you might not get off all the cess (I have no idea whether that makes sence)…It comes down to rich, famous people got a little bit more to lose that the average black man on the corner. So they might wanna forget that concept of disrespect if they don’t want to lose 5.9 mil. I need to actually do class work in class. OKKK.
