  1. Their problem is very similar to ours minus the whole slavery thing. If you listen to their complaints, we and the Latino community could make the very same ones. They just happen to be persistent and united. If they continue, look for spread as people get more and more pissed and sympathize. The French government and its police officers have very little exxperience with this kind of thing, so both the riots and the response is going to new territory. This is like the riots when King died, all over the country and about the same thing. It will be interesting to see if American blacks will realize that these people are basically being treated like us and the Latino communities. And if so, what will we do about it? Did you notice the way they (like everybody else) are emulating American dress and culture? (Tearing shit up in your own community–is most closely akin to American culture). Will they be heard or just pacified like us? Will they go for the okey-doke? Will it continue to be a cultural and societal point maker or will it become a just tear shit up night(a la University of Maryland–we just won the NCAA championship)? Keep your eyes on it. I am interested to see what others think.

  2. Yup, the French have little or no experience with this. If it were the Germans rioting or torching cars, the French could just surrender like they usually do, but this is different. And because they don’t know what to do, don’t be surprised if a whole bunch of people die, and don’t think it’s gonna be cops. There’s really not too much to be accomplished from this.

  4. The French could learn a lot from us when it comes to rioting and general civil unrest.
It took nearly two weeks for someone to die over there from all this. We’d have that knocked out in the first two hours, probably quicker.
Maybe if they were more efficient they’d have more jobs and this mess wouldn’t have escalated like it did.
