Voting Sucks

I’m not much of an American Idol fan, but I tuned in last night.  Of course, the night I tune in would be country night, but I’m not violently opposed to country music.  I still wish I’d written Garth Brooks’ “The Dance.”
Anyway, I got to see this Sanjaya character for the first time.  Seriously, it was an evil trick the country played, keeping that poor boy on TV for so long.  He was really, really bad.  I give him credit for taking it all in stride, but he was wiggy-wack.  Yikes, man.  I wanna know how he got on in the first place.  I need to get on American Idol.  Shoot, I would have done better using Bubba Sparxxx’s “Back In The Mud” as a country night selection than that dude singing “Something To Talk About.”
Anyway, my girlfriend told me that people have been voting for him out of spite.  Just to harangue the whole voting process.  Sounded like fun to me, so I sent in a text for the dude.
And they put the dude off.  See, this is why I people feel like voting is just a waste of gas.
Apathy now consumes me.

  1. Wow, I can’t believe you haven’t heard the “debacle” behind Sanjaya’s stay on Idol. Visit http://www.votefortheworst.com and you’ll understand more. Also, you can thank Mr. Howard Stern (the shock jock not the creepy boyfriend of the last Anna Nicole)…..I never watched Idol until the 4th season and I’m glad because I’ve seen this “American Idol Rewind” where they play re-runs of the 1st season’s episodes, one every Sunday, and the talent is WAY better than the first 3 seasons when it was essentially “glorified karaoke.” Not to say that the winners & some runner-ups aren’t good singers, it’s just that they have a live band everytime now and they didn’t back then. This year though, has been the worst, BY FAR, with regards to the talent level, and then mix in this Sanjaya crap, it’s like this season has been a joke. That’s kind of sad though for the other contestants that REALLY CAN sing like Jordin Sparks (and of course I LOVE her because of her father, Phillipe Sparks, former NY Giants corner), Blake Lewis & Lakisha Jones. These people are trying to live their dreams and unfortunately they got through on the “joke” season. To sum up though, I am SO HAPPY now that Sanjaya is gone, so now the focus can be put on the REAL singers. Also, as far as you saying how do you get on Idol…most people don’t know that you have to go through 3 or 4 auditions (ex. for the producers, the executive producers, etc.) and then FINALLY you get to Randy, Paula & Simon. It’s ALL ABOUT ratings, so when we see the auditions at the beginning of each season, we know they were picked BECAUSE they suck or BECAUSE they pitched a fit, or cussed, etc. for entertainment. All about the Benji’s right?…………..Take Care Bo

  2. The Dance, huh? I think that’s your Houston showing…I love that song too, but I can’t help but loving it since they played it as the soundtrack for a video about the perils of drunk driving seems like before every spring break in high school. Did y’all have to watch those too in Waller?
Also, as far as how Sanjaya got on, surprisingly, his audition was really good.
I will say this, your frustration with Idol speaks to your previous post about the state of hiphop; talent is not a determinant for success.

  3. Ill sign and produce Sanjaya myself if it can be proven that he got fewer votes than Lakisha.
Fox PUT him off the show.
They let it play out….saw that it could cost them the FOX franchise…and they put the fix in. That would explain Simons smug expression all day.
Poor Lakisha looked like she was gonna LOSE it if she got voted off.
    anyhow…enough of this foolishness…
    BRING ON THE NBA PLAYOFFS!

  4. One of the great benefits of living in Nashville is you can just be thirsty one night and roll into a bar and hear Tony Arata doing his thing at a singer/songwriter night. He’s also proof that one mega-hit can keep you funded for life.
You’re right on about Sanjaya, though…he is notsogood. He had about one “good” performance the entire time(“Besame Mucho,” last week) and was vastly out of his league. I felt bad for him–he was way below the other contestants in terms of talent, but still had to go out there and attempt to sing each week. Tough thing to do, I would think.

  5. Every season they seem to have one bonafide artist, and not always the winner (as was the case last year with Chris Daughtry). This year I think Melinda is so far above the others, it’s a joke she even needs to compete.
Jordin’s good too, but needs some maturity in her voice. Give her a few more years.
Sanjaya is only the latest one to be the fly in the ointment of that show. There have been many like him in the past who hang on too long, and should have never made the top 12 anyway.

  6. People who waste their time watching that show are rotting their wasting their brains. Who really gives shit? I sure don’t. My wife still does. Guess there is no accounting for taste. She did marry me.
