What's your favorite Law and Order?

Business…here’s a look between the lines of Denny Green’s meltdown last night.  Funnnnn-y stuff that was.
I intended to take today off after a hellish last five or six days–btw, I never made it to Vermont, and that was the least of the twubbles.  So today, I’m getting a haircut, cleaning my house, and chillin’ out.  Talk amongst yourselves about anything.
Here’s a suggestion.  Pick your favorite Law and Order–the original, SVU, or CI.  Right now, I go with SVU.

  1. Sure SVU is nice once in a while, but damned if they don’t go to the sexual abuse of children well (n. baby jessica) a bit too often.
The original is still the best and going strong even with only two long time cast members on the team. The old episodes hold up very well and SVU still is rolling with an original (Dann Florek) castoff.
    Church, preach, tabernacle.

  2. My girl is a huge Law and Order fan, so I end up watching all 3.
I’d say the original is the most reliable (but it hasn’t been the same since Jerry Orbach died…and the new girl is completely unbelievable as a cop. terrible casting).
CI is entertaining, but they have a convenient plot device: smart guy DiNofrio knows every fucking thing in the world and elicits a confession every rip. He’s batting 1.000. The CI B Team is aight.
SVU is OK, I guess, but the writing has been horrendous the last couple of seasons. This is the most “issue-oriented” of the 3, but the dialogue is forced in order to lay out both sides of each particular debate. They shuffle detective lineups for no apparent reason. They have Marissa Hargitay go undercover when she doesn’t need to. One minute they have angry guy be a raging beast, the next he’s the sensitive voice of reason. They frequently work cases that aren’t related to sexual assault. It doesn’t make sense.

  3. I pick SVU; the writing’s good and I love watching Ice-T (is Odafin “Fin” Tutuola the funniest/strange cop name in history?). CI’s Vincent D’onofrio is just creepy to me; and Sam Waterston is a one-trick pony. His righteous indignation got old after by the 2nd season he was there.

  4. SVU. Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay are great together, or not as this season’s case may be. Haven’t seen it in a few. Are they still not partnered up?
Been a fan of Mariska’s for a long time… Back during her Falcon Crest days. How many of you know she is the daughter of Jane Mansfield (and a former Mr. Universe of whom Arnold S. played the role of in a TV movie back in the day)?
Supporting cast of Ice T., Richard Belzer and B.D. Wong is cool too!
The original was good too, but I just couldn’t keep up with the revolving door of characters. When Lenny left, my interest pretty much did too.
C.I. — Hmmm, the dude from MIB is kinda wierd.
