The First Episode of Bomani and Jones

“We didn’t dip a toe in the water with this one. This is a fucking cannonball.” -Chip Patterson, on the first episode of “Bomani and Jones.”
With the good folks at SB Nation, I’m rolling out a new YouTube show today called “Bomani and Jones.” That’s the video below, and I’d like you to check it out. The show will hit YouTube every Thursday at noon, and you can get it on the SB Nation YouTube channel, SB Nation.com, and we’ll also have each week’s show here at BomaniJones.com and in The Email Jones.
Now, I’ll get to the point: this is, without question, the coolest thing I’ve ever done in this industry. It also might be the best. It certainly is the most singular. After I watched the first episode, my immediate thought was: there’s nobody else doing this in mainstream sports media right now. And, because of a combination of factors not limited to what I am and am not capable of, I’m not sure anyone else could do what we’re about to do.
If you listened to The Morning Jones, the perspective and production will seem familiar. Basically, we’re going to try to take the topics, perspectives and features of The Morning Jones and make videos from them. Stuff like the Old Soul Pro? We’re going to find a way to work it out. Satirical stuff like the mockumentaries? We’re going to get those rolling, too? On top of that, because of the resources we’ve got to work with now, we’re going to be able to get out and do work in the field, pipe people in via Skype or whatever for interviews, and do our best to provide the sort of sports content you’ve been looking for, but can’t seem to find anywhere.
Just as with the “Two Minutes” videos, I’ll be working with Hayes Permar and Chip Patterson of Serious Sports. One of the best things about working with SB Nation is they allowed me to keep working with the guys that helped get my work to where it is, guys who know me, and guys who know what they’re doing. I can do my part, leave, and then come back after it’s all done and simply enjoy it as anyone else would. As you’ll see — or have seen — from the first episode, they do great work and will help take this project to great heights.
As for me? I’m geeked. Seriously geeked. It’s partially because I really like our first episode, but it’s also because this is kinda sort of a big deal for me. I’ve been doing this for almost 12 years now, and it has been quite the circuitous path. But now, I’m working with really smart people who are really working toward being where the game is going. I’ve been fortunate enough to meet a bunch of people in my travels with whom I came up in this game who I can still work with and can get the breaks they’ve been waiting for. And — the best part — it’s fun, credible stuff that I want to do.
This is the sort of show that I’d want to watch, produced with an eye toward the fact that not everyone’s like me. Except they are. Yeah, it’s like that.
Click and enjoy. Subscribe to the channel. And get ready. We are doing our damnedest to change the game.
