Haven't done this in a while…

Business…here’s my look at Jigga’s American Gangster.
Advance SSP…I’ll be doing a chat tomorrow at 1 EST.  Join me for all the fun.
Many of you were originally directed to Virtual Bomaniland by the work I did on music.  In the last couple of years, I’d moved out of that work.  Part of it was because I wanted to focus on improving as a sportswriter, but another part of it was that it became more difficult to write about something I just didn’t dig as much as I used to.  The current state of affairs was going to drive this music journalist into being a music historian, if you get my drift.
All the same, it was a lot of fun writing about music again–rewinding to catch bits of minutaie, going through the hard drive looking for historical parallels, considering the hustle of it all.  More of that will come in the future, I imagine.
Back to work.  Have fun.

  1. Good read. I’m looking forward to dissecting this album. The first really worthy of dissection in a long time. I’ve been excited about it since before hearing Blue Magic, and each subsequent song I’ve heard, has only ramped up the anticipation factor for me. I’m definitely reveling in the nostalgia factor of it all. Having flashbacks of Jay in front of the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), in the bubble Lex,months before Reasonable Doubt dropped. Good times. And, I agree, I think he would have recorded this album for free.

  2. I was actually dreading what you would say about the Jigga album, didn’t agree with every word but you didn’t disappoint me either. He did actually say in a recent inter view that he would have done this for free. I have not stopped listening to the cd since I bought it last week. American Dreamin and Fallin are my two favorites and although I despise Lil Wayne I do like that song. For the record I like Kingdom Come as well. I thought Lost Ones and Beach Chair were introspective and something people were not expecting.
