Stop Snitchin!

OK, a confession.  Since episode 4, I’ve been watching The Wire ahead of the regular airtime.  For the first three weeks, that was about my only option.  Then I got a hold of some others, and I just couldn’t wait.  That said, I’ve only done updates after the regular cable run time, and I ain’t giving nothing away from episode I’ve already seen that you may not have.  Know why?
Cuz I ain’t no snitch.
And you shouldn’t be either.

  1. Yeah man, those Wire snitches need to get got. Ya know?
I steer well clear of IMDB and even YouTube in the run-up to an episode. I heard rumblings of who would pop Omar and I didn’t believe it. Then I saw the show build up to his dénouement and bam! the snitch had effed up the game for real soldiers like yours truly by leaking it to YouTube weeks early and causing all manner of debate about it’s authenticity.
I appreciate that I can come to your blog and know that all the commentary will be relevant to the ‘official’ airing.
And I also realized that in one of my earliest posts on this site I inadvertently ‘leaked’ a tidbit about Omar’s limp before the masses would have seen it. Sorry playas. Uncle Ruckus wudn’t knowin’ whut he was doin’.
You see… I somehow managed to see all the way up through s05e07 before most of y’all had seen s05e03 (reviewer DVD. It’s good to have low friends in high places). In my haste, I lost track of sequence and forgot that not everybody was up to where I was.
Fortunately it wasn’t much of a buss so I didn’t catch heat.
On another note… I think the real deal is that the viewers want to consume the media how they wish. OnDemand is an interesting experiment but the content is still eeked out in a way that favors the egos of the channel operator.
What they should really do is release the whole freakin’ series in one big lump and let us walk through it at our own particular paces. You’ll have hundreds of thousands of rapt viewers trying to get through the series so they can know what the hell they are talking about with their compatriots (“No. Seriously. STFU if you haven’t seen #5 because what you talkin’ bout already been settled!”). Now THAT would be an interesting experiment in rabid (and rapid) viewership.
That’s the only way they’ll trump the official unofficial channels for getting media in advance. Y’all know what I’m talkin’ about.
The cat is out of the bag and it’s uploadingz ur contentz.

    Don’t hate me because I’m tech-savvy.

  2. Yeah, dude. I avoided Wire previews like the plague. If anything remotely jumped out that showed it may reveal plotlines from an upcoming episode, I ran the other way.
